Tell us a bit about yourself
I was born and raised in Malaysia and I have lived in London for eight years.
I live with my husband Sam in a small flat underneath a church in Central London. We both love walking around London, eating (lots), enjoying a game of squash and getting hooked on TV series!
I started freelancing as an illustrator in September, previously having worked as a Children's Worker in a Christian Community Centre called All Souls Clubhouse. When I'm not illustrating, I'm a part-time assistant in an illustrated paper goods company called BerinMade.
Morning by Morning Illustrations came about when I was thinking and praying through how to be creative and to continue sharing the gospel. One day in late September, the song line 'morning by morning new mercies I see' from the hymn, 'Great is Thy Faithfulness', kept popping up in my head with the image of having constant reminders of God's word being our truth each day. So this got me excited to start sketching ... lots!
What inspires you?
I love looking at pretty things- whether it's dresses and home decor on Pinterest, looking through shop windows or picking up a children's book.
The other thing that inspires me is listening to Christian music with good lyrics and tunes that warm my heart- they make me want to pick up my Bible and find out where they got that truth from. Both of these are the perfect ingredients to make me want to be creative!
What are some of your favourite things to do at Christmas?
My favourite thing is feasting with my family and friends on delicious food that we only somehow eat in that combination at that time of the year. I also love opening presents with everyone gathered around the Christmas tree- it makes me feel like back when I was a child - eagerly waiting the whole day to tear open my gifts and see what's inside!
It's also great to end the day with a hot cup of mulled wine and some turkey noodle stir fry (yes, more food...and yes, it's really good!)
Tell us about your sponsored child
My husband has been sponsoring two children before we were married for over 5 years. Agnes is 14 years old from the coastal community of Mtangani, Kenya and Francisco, 12 years old, is from Aldeota, Brazil. Our hope for them is that they would grow to know and love Jesus more, grow up healthy and achieve their own hopes.
Through our letters, drawings and photos we hope that they would be encouraged that there are two people on the other side of the world who care and pray for them.
