Six years ago, 11-year-old Sarah’s life changed.
After listening to a Compassion Sunday presentation, Theresa decided to become her sponsor. From a girl struggling to survive in one of the poorest provinces in the Philippines, Sarah now has a sponsor to encourage and support her. She’s getting an education and can now realise her dream of becoming a teacher.
Sarah's life was changed thanks to someone saying "yes" to Compassion Sunday.
As people throughout the UK prepare to speak to their churches, friends and family about children in poverty as part of Compassion Sunday, let’s pray for more Sarahs. This weekend, let’s ask for many more lives to be released from poverty in Jesus’ name!
Sarah lives in Masbate, one of the most deprived provinces in the Philippines. Her mother Sarina struggles to provide for her as she only works irregular hours at a food kiosk. “We would love for her to finish college since my husband and I didn’t get education,” Sarina explains. “But we couldn’t see how we could do it with how little we make.”

But now, thanks to a Compassion Sunday presentation, Sarah can go to school. Her fees are paid by her sponsor’s donations. Not only this, but every week she can go to the Good News Child Development Centre where she receives nutritious food, extra help with her studies, health check-ups and teaching about Jesus. In a community plagued by violence, she has a place where she can go to feel safe and loved.
At the Compassion project, Christian staff members look out for Sarah.
The project has even helped Sarah to open her own bank account. “I would have never thought of opening a bank account for my daughter,” her mum Sarina explains. “This is very helpful for her future.”
Join with us this weekend and pray for more sponsors for children like Sarah.
Please pray for:
-The hundreds who are speaking to their churches, friends and family about children in poverty.
Pray they will be given the courage and words they need to share their passion for helping children in poverty.
-Many children to be found sponsors.
Ask that many more children living in desperate poverty will be able to receive the life-changing food, health check-ups, education and biblical teaching given through the Compassion programme.
