In the communities we work in there are all sorts of obstacles that make healthy living a challenge. But so many can be overcome with access to the right support and education.
Through our sponsorship programme children get health and dental checkups access to good nutrition and learn how to keep themselves and their families well. These are great foundations for a healthy life, but different communities face different challenges and, indeed, every child has their own unique health needs. Through RESPOND, we can do our utmost to meet them all.
From teaching communities how to avoid malnutrition and HIV/AIDS to distributing malaria nets and arranging emergency surgery, with the help of RESPOND, we can prevent many health problems and act in the event of an emergency.
RESPOND in Action
Ten-year-old Hellen Junieth Cabrera Torres from Nicaragua was a healthy child before she had surgery for appendicitis. After the operation Hellen developed complications and fell into a coma. It took weeks of intensive treatment and prayer, but Hellen is now back to full health.
“Without the project’s help we wouldn’t have been able to afford Hellen’s medical bills,” says her mum, Arlen. “The project gave us medicine, food and special milk. I have no words to express all they did for us and how thankful I am.”
Without Compassion’s Health RESPONSE, Hellen would never have been able to afford the vital treatment.
