When I hold a little child in my arms I have to admit I am overcome with the smallness of them and the bigness of me. When we look at children, little is often what we see. With seemingly limited understanding, short attention spans and almost no inhibitions or self-awareness, children can be easy to dismiss. And yet Jesus brings a child into the middle of a crowd of educated adults and says that they need to become like this precious little one to enter God’s Kingdom.
Although the world and sin tells us otherwise, we are wholly dependent on our Heavenly Father, just as a new-born is dependent upon their parents. Each breath, day and life is all part of His creation that He is continually sustaining. He has counted our days and knows the detail of every one.
When we surrender and see that we are so little compared to the creator of the universe then we are fully released to live and walk with Him as we were created to. We will know that in the midst of storms we are steadfast in His arms. We will know that He has provided every gift of every moment. We will know Him as Abba Father. And that is how we enter His house.
Prayer:
Lord God, we thank you that we can come before you and call you father. We pray that you will help us develop a childlike humility today. Amen.
