Walking humbly despite trials

"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love." Ephesians 4:2

17-year-old Jennylin lives in the Philippines. Despite hardships, she is able to rely on God’s unfailing love and walk humbly with Him.

Jennylin and her family live in a small concrete house under a pedestrian bridge. There is no electricity or running water and the family struggle to put food on the table. There are still times when food is short that Jennylin asks God, “Why should we live in this situation?”

Despite her circumstances, her faith and trust in God shines through: “I am rich in the Lord and my family is happy, despite our living conditions … I know the Lord will provide,” she explains.

Jennylin’s sponsors have been vital in her walk with God. “I can feel their prayers and [I] love thinking that people in another country are praying for me.” Through her sponsors, she has grown closer to God. With a smile she explains, “Yes, I still ask God why we experience hardship, but because of our faith we can understand the situation better. We know that He will provide and that He will not give us a trial that we are not able to overcome. It is because I know God and I know that the hardships are temporary.”

Heavenly father, we thank you for your unfailing love for each of us. We pray that whatever situations we find ourselves in you will help us to humble ourselves and be open to your leading. Amen.
